Many of the nursing homes on the Eastern Shore are a breeding ground for nursing malpractice and abuse lawsuits. Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury may have a few problems. But this 102-bed county-owned nursing home is far better than most on the Eastern Shore. It received in 2017 the sought after 5-star overall rating from Medicare. The nursing home's inspection report was not magical. They will not be putting such things as failure to make sure the nursing home area is "free from accident hazards and risks and provides supervision to prevent avoidable accidents" on the facility's brochure. But compared to what we see in most of these nursing homes, this is pretty tame.
Tangentially, this nursing home is recently filed a lawsuit, along with Oakview Rehabilitation, Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Brooke Grove Foundation, in which these nursing homes allege as assignees and/or authorized representatives of eleven of their current and former residents, that the Maryland Department of Health has violated federal law by failing to timely issue Medicare eligibility determinations. They also allege that "systematic unjustified delays in [the] processing of Medicaid applications ...constitutes unlawful discrimination" in violation of the ADA. This federal court lawsuit was dismissed by the court in August 2017.
